Beef Cost of Production
A working partnership between Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, the Western Beef Development Centre (WBDC) and the Agriculture Institute of Management in Saskatchewan (AIMS) to collect whole farm and enterprise cost-of-production data from 52 beef cow herds in Saskatchewan for the years 1998, 1999, and 2000. Subsequent objectives include:

  • Development of a standardized computerized Cost of Production (COP) enterprise/whole farm database for Saskatchewan.
  • Provide assistance in organizing, integrating, and analyzing physical and financial data/information based on producer "on-farm" data.
  • Enable participants to compare their farm business performance with other farms in their area and across Western Canada.
  • Produce physical, economic, and financial benchmarks to greatly improve extension service and on-farm management practices.
  • Utilizing research results on farming efficiency, competitiveness, value added etc., to greatly enhance policies and programs for agriculture and farm management.
